Caravaneer 2 Released
After being in Beta since August, Caravaneer 2 has now launched version 1.0. The game – created and built by one developer, Dmiðrik Zheltobriukhovsson – is the follow-up to the original Caravaneer, which was launched in 2007. The core game is browser based and free-to-play, although additional features (such as extra missions) will be available to buy as DLCs. Currently there are two DLCs available – one is free and the other is priced at $2.
In Caravaneer 2 you play as a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world, were the only way to make money is to trade various materials with the small settlements that remain. As you travel around in your caravan you also encounter lots of bad guys, who you do battle with using turn-based combat (and a variety of weapons). The game’s biggest selling feature is its huge in game world with dozens and dozens of settlements and a massive, largely non-linear story-line for you to explore. The beta version took Tristan around 60 hours to complete, which for a free-to-play browser game is simply incredible.
The game has been launched with support for 8 languages, including Spanish, German and Chinese, and there are plans for more languages to be added as the translations become completed. The are also plans for plenty more DLCs in the future, including getting all of the characters’ lines voiced by members of the fan-base.
Caravaneer 2 is yet another great example of the indie games that are being developed on a day-to-day basis and, as is so common, comes with a large fan-community and funding from a successful crowdfunding campaign.
The game has been built in conjunction with GamesofHonor.com but has also been uploaded to various other browser games sites, including Kongregate.com where it is, at the time of writing, the highest rated December release.
